Press Release

Indian Oil GMC Trophy 2008

After having wielded their pens and cameras for a full year, members of the media would again pick up the cricket bat — and also the ball— for a change.

On Sunday, March 16, four teams of the Gujarat Media Club would sweat it out at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Navrangpura. The four teams would play cricket to win the Indian Oil-GMC Trophy 2008 cricket tournament, being sponsored by navratna, the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for the second year. The GMC members would be represented in four teams, the Print (English), the Print (Languages), the Electronic Media and the Media Associates. In a break from the hectic schedules of media functioning, the families too would be there at the stadium in relaxed mood. The children would cheer their dads as they try to hit a boundary but end up clean bowled. The Indian Oil-GMC Trophy begins at 9.00 a.m. on Sunday, with knock-out matches for the qualifying round between 10-a-side teams. There would be two knock-out matches with the teams playing ten overs each. In addition to the revolving trophy for winning team, there would be trophies for Player of the tournament, Best Batsman, Best Fielder and Best Bowler. Advisor to the tournament would be Mr Amish Saheba, member of the ICC umpire panel, while Mr Tarak Trivedi and Mr Harshad Nayak would be the umpires for the matches. Mr Dilip Singh and Mr Ayub Khan Pathan would be the observers for the three matches. Mr Mahesh Biravat will be the scorer while eminent physician Dr Piyush Shah will give the running commentary of the matches.
