Electronics Media lift IOC-GMC Cricket Trophy third year in row

The annual cricket carnival of the Gujarat Media Club, the IOC-GMC Cricket Trophy, was held amid fanfare at the St Xavier’s Loyola Hall School stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, February 12, 2017. The Electronics Media team lifted the trophy third year in a row, this time under the captaincy of Pravin Sonawane, winning by three wickets against Print Languages team, led by Mayur Jani. Batting first, Print Languages scored 75 runs in 10 overs giving a target of 76 which was accomplished by the Electronics team in 7.3 overs with three wickets to spare.

As usual whole-heartedly supported by the Indian Oil Corporation, the cricket tournament was witnessed by families of many members. Officials of the Indian Oil Corporation also participated in the tournament as part of the four teams, Print English, Print Languages, Electronics Media and Media Associates. Veteran photo journalist Shailesh Rawal was the skipper of the Print English team, while Media Associates were led by Vicky Shah.

Senior IOC official Bhavin Radia, who coordinated with the GMC on behalf of his company for the tournament, was as usual at his cooperative best. IOC Executive Director Sanjiv Kumar Jain tossed the coin for the nail-biting final match between Electronics Media and Print Languages team, led by Mehul Jhala, and was impressed by the arrangements at the stadium. The GMC remains grateful to the IOC for its association with the club for nearly a decade.

St Xavier’s School Principal, Father Charles, and Sports In-charge, Father Amal Raj, were extremely cooperative in organizing the event. They worked on the pitch and the ground for over one week to ensure the players had a fruitful experience.
